Dr. Christoforetti's dedication to exploring new frontiers in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery is not just about scientific curiosity—it’s about how these insights can be directly applied to improve patient outcomes, ensuring that the latest evidence and techniques back every treatment.
By actively participating in research studies and collaborating with leading experts, Dr. Christoforetti ensures his practice is always aligned with the cutting edge of medical science. This dedication enriches his understanding and enhances the care provided to his patients.
Dr. Christoforetti has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of tendon healing and soft tissue regenerative surgery. His research has led to innovative approaches that significantly improve the recovery process for athletes and active individuals.
Dr. Christoforetti’s unique research and leadership contributions to the field of orthopedics have been recognized by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (Aircast Award for Clinical Science), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (Master Instructor, Steven Snyder Award for Education), the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (Society President, 2024). He is a founding of the MASH Studygroup and has authored over 40 original peer-reviewed publications. He has been quoted in The Atlantic and delivered invited lectures in over 10 countries.
Additionally, in order to continually improve the quality of care provided in his medical practice, Dr. Christoforetti trained and partnered with a full-time orthopedic and sports medicine researcher (Ryan McGovern, PhD, ATC) for a decade. Dr. McGovern was tasked with coordinating the collection of clinical outcomes in order to interpret, analyze and validate the evidence-based medical care that Dr. Christoforetti provides to each patient. For his clinical research efforts, he was awarded the Physiotherapy Award for Excellence in Clinical Research at the 2019 International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) Annual Meeting in Madrid, Spain. Together they founded the Pittsburgh and Dallas centers for the MASH Studygroup (www.mashstudy.com). In August of 2024, Dr Christoforetti was named a Fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (FAANA), 23 years after graduating from Georgetown University School of Medicine, he continues to contribute at the highest levels of the field.
Currently, Dr. Christoforetti is the Chair of the Value Based Care Committee and leading member of the Research Foundation at the Centers for Advanced Orthopedics, LLC.
Currently, Dr. Christoforetti is involved in several research projects that promise to further revolutionize orthopedic treatment. These studies focus on:
Patients receiving outpatient surgical and conservative care for shoulder, hip and/or knee injuries with Dr. Christoforetti may be consented and enrolled to participate in clinical outcomes research. Using state of the art software from Arthrex (Surgical Outcomes Systems – SOS) patients are automatically sent secure links to sign in and complete surveys before, and up to 10 years after their medical care. These numbers are then compiled to help Dr. Christoforetti improve his practice as well as collaborate with other centers of excellence to advance the field.
