John J. Christoforetti, M.D., FAAOS is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and Board Certified Sports Medicine Specialist with special training in the following areas:
- Sports Medicine and Minimally Invasive Arthroscopic Surgery of the Shoulder, Elbow, Hip and Knee
- Hip Arthroscopic Surgery
- Shoulder and Knee Replacement Surgery
- Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding Injuries
- Martial Arts and Boxing Inuries
Dr Christoforetti is licensed to practice medicine by the medical board of Pennsylvania and is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and also Sports Medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He is an Assistant Professor for the Drexel University School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He serves as fellowship director for the hip arthroscopy division of Allegheny Orthopaedic Associates and faculty member for the orthopaedic residency and sports medicine fellowship programs at Allegheny Health Network.
His practice in the Pittsburgh area began in 2007 and he performed over 2000 operative procedures with meticulous collection of patient outcomes. He served as Head team physician for the Washington Wild Things (2007), Peters Township School District (2008-2012), and co-team physician for Seneca Valley (’08-’12), North Allegheny (’07-’12) and Moon Township (‘07-’09) School districts.
He is currently an active consultant for trainers and players from Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, PGA, and division I athletics. He serves as consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, and the high schools of the Allegheny Health Network Sports Medicine program for sport related hip injuries.
His research interests in the area of rotator cuff disease and athletic hip injury have been presented at the national and international level.
Dr Christoforetti is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a master instructor of hip arthroscopy at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago, Illinois and a faculty member for the American Hip Institute also based in Chicago. He reviews original research for publication in the areas of arthroscopic surgery of the hip and surgery of the shoulder for all major journals.
Dr Christoforetti serves as a paid consultant for Arthrex, Inc. and Breg, Inc. These orthopaedic device manufacturers call upon his skills to invent and evaluate new products as well as instruct other surgeons from around the world on their safe usage. He is fully in support of the Sunshine Act provision of the ACA introduced by President Obama. Neither he nor his family receives any direct or indirect financial payments from industry for products or services administered to his own patients.
He serves as the lead for sports medicine and hip arthroscopy at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in the Bloomfield/Shadyside area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he resides with his wife and four sons.
